Florida Jazz Express is a professional contemporary big band that provides high quality musical entertainment. The 18-member band plays the best of classic big band, jazz, Latin, standards and modern music by Stan Kenton, Woody Herman, Buddy Rich, Count Basie, Maynard Ferguson, Doc Severinsen, Tito Puente, Arturo Sandoval, Gordon Goodwin, Tower of Power and lots more
As one of the most vibrant and exciting large jazz orchestras in Florida, Florida Jazz Express is comprised of the busiest musicians in the Tampa Bay area with resumes that include performing with the world’s top entertainers. They can be seen performing as “pit” musicians in theater productions, as club date musicians. In recording sessions, in smaller groups at jazz venues, in concert band and symphony orchestras.
Fred Novomestky, director and bassist, has created a jazz band where the foremost concept is to entertain audiences of all ages and for all venues with modern big band arrangements across a broad range of music styles and performed by great jazz musicians.
Florida Jazz Express was founded in January of 2017 and made its first public performance in May of 2017 at the Dockside Grille in New Port Richey. The band enjoyed a 22-month residency at the establishment. Since April of 2019, Florida Jazz Express has performed at Safety Harbor Resort and Spa. The most recent performances have been in the magnificent Baranoff Theater.
Florida Jazz Express is the culmination of the director’s experience leading bands in New York and performing at several jazz festivals in New York, Rhode Island and Puerto Rico.
